Two free afternoons in November offer South Florida owners something most AI events do not: a laptop open, a real idea on the screen and help in the room. On Sunday, Nov. 15, a community-hosted hackathon called DevDay Exchange Community: Miami runs from 2 to 6:30 p.m. ET at The DOCK, 400 NW 26th St. in Miami. Three days later, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, South Florida AI and Waymaker hold Partner With AI, a beginner workshop in West Palm Beach from 1 to 3:40 p.m. ET.
Both are free. They are built for very different people, though, and an owner who picks the wrong room will spend the afternoon either lost or bored. Here is how they compare and how to get in.

Miami, Nov. 15: A Hackathon With Credits
The Miami event is a Codex Community Events listing on Luma, organized by local community hosts. It is not on OpenAI’s official DevDay Exchange city list, so owners should treat it as a community hackathon built around OpenAI’s Codex tools. Registration requires host approval, and the listing showed close to 400 spots remaining on Oct. 13.
The organizers say the full agenda will be announced soon. The listing promises several hours to build a project with Codex, team formation on site for anyone arriving solo, and project presentations at the end of the hackathon, which runs until 6:30 p.m. Pizza is included.
The listing says eligible checked-in attendees can receive $100 in Codex credits and $50 in OpenAI API credits. Each approved member of the top three teams receives a year of ChatGPT Pro, plus up to $1,000 in OpenAI API credits. Credits depend on eligibility and check-in, so plan on them as a possible bonus.
West Palm Beach, Nov. 18: A Beginner’s Build
Partner With AI is the gentler on-ramp. South Florida AI lists it as free and beginner-friendly, says no coding is required, and answers the obvious question directly: “No ticket, no upsell pitch at the end.” The exact venue goes out by email to everyone who RSVPs, along with a reminder the week of the event.
The 2 hour 40 minute agenda moves from choosing an AI tool to a structured prompting approach the organizers call the Interview Method, then a live build that turns an idea into a working interactive tool. Attendees build their own business context document, learn to spot failures such as hallucinations and generic output, and get guided time to make something from their own idea. Waymaker, which the page describes as South Florida AI’s implementation partner, co-hosts.
How to Prepare
For Miami, request a seat early, since approval takes time and spots are limited. Charge the laptop, sign in to the tools you plan to use before arriving, and come with one small, concrete project idea tied to your business, such as a booking tool or a menu page.
For West Palm Beach, write down one task that eats your week, whether that is answering the same customer questions or drafting social posts. The workshop is designed around attendees’ own ideas, and a specific problem turns the afternoon into a tool you can use Monday.

Do I need coding experience for these free AI events?
Partner With AI requires no coding and is built for beginners, career switchers, founders, marketers and curious professionals. What should I bring to a free AI build session?
Bring a charged laptop and one concrete idea. In Miami, sign in to your tools before arriving and plan a small project such as a booking tool. In West Palm Beach, a laptop is recommended but not required, since attendees without one can pair with someone, and a specific weekly task works best.
