Three AI sessions for South Florida business owners, none with a ticket price, land in a span of 16 days this month, and each one teaches in a different way. Florida International University’s webinar on Tuesday, Oct. 6 is an online overview. TechFluence Live: Business Edition on Thursday, Oct. 15 in Fort Lauderdale is an evening of workshops, a panel and networking. Miami AI Women’s Wednesday, Oct. 21 session in Coral Gables is a hands-on lesson in writing better prompts. As of Sunday, Oct. 4, the official page for each one was live and accepting registration or RSVPs. TechFluence and Miami AI Women say free in so many words; FIU’s pages list a price of zero and do not use the word.

For an owner who has been meaning to start with AI, the calendar offers a rare chance to try three formats without opening a wallet. The sections below cover what each organizer publishes, what it leaves unsaid, and which kind of owner each session suits. Every date, time and price comes from the organizer’s own page, read on Oct. 4.

Oct. 6: FIU’s One-Hour Overview

FIU’s event calendar lists AI Fundamentals for Your Small Business on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern, as a virtual event. The College of Business is the listed department, and the listing is tagged for the Florida Small Business Development Center at FIU. The description promises a review of different AI platforms, their best uses and “a complete picture of the AI ecosystem,” for owners who are new to AI and for those already using it. Our full guide to the FIU webinar walks through the registration form and what the pages do not say.

The cost deserves a precise description. FIU’s calendar event data lists the price as 0, and the registration form has no payment step. Neither FIU page uses the word free, so this piece reports the listed price of zero and nothing more. No speaker, webinar platform, capacity limit or recording policy is published, so owners should check the confirmation after they register. This is the shortest and lowest-commitment session on the list, which makes it a sensible first step.

Oct. 15: TechFluence Live in Fort Lauderdale

The Urban League of Broward County Economic Services is organizing TechFluence Live: Business Edition at the League’s headquarters, 560 NW 27th Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Its Eventbrite page describes “an engaging technology and entrepreneurship experience” for entrepreneurs, business owners, aspiring founders, technology professionals and community resources, and states that “registration is free, but space is limited.” Parking is listed as free, the event is open to all ages, and the page showed tickets on sale as of Sunday, Oct. 4.

The evening is more structured than a typical mixer. The agenda starts at 5 p.m. with registration, networking and partner engagement, followed by welcome remarks at 5:30. An AI workshop led by Andre Kay runs from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m., and a panel called Where Technology Meets Entrepreneurship follows from 6:20 to 7 p.m. with Ann Marie Sorrell, Jahfar Campbell, Vivian Olodun and Kevin Burch. After a Q&A, Sorrell leads a branding workshop from 7:20 to 7:50, and the night closes with networking from 8 to 8:30.

The panel topics read like an owner’s to-do list: building and scaling a business, product development, access to capital and funding, business and investor readiness, mentorship and strategic partnerships, and navigating the South Florida business and technology ecosystem. The organizers suggest bringing business cards or contact information, business materials and plenty of questions, and recommend business casual dress.

One detail changed along the way. An earlier version of the listing, still visible in some search results, showed a 6 p.m. start, but the organizer’s live Eventbrite page lists 5 to 8:30 p.m., with doors at 4:45 p.m. Owners planning a drive from Palm Beach County should use the organizer’s time.

Oct. 21: Miami AI Women in Coral Gables

Miami AI Women, a Meetup group, is holding what it calls its very first meetup, a Hands-On AI Workshop for Women in Business, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Courtyard Miami Coral Gables, 2051 S. Le Jeune Rd. The page lists the price as free with 15 spots, doors at 6 p.m. and a 6:15 sharp start. It is aimed at women running businesses in Miami, including founders, consultants, agency owners and professional-service providers, and says no technical background is needed.

The lesson is built as three levels. Level 1 asks one real business question and saves the answer as a “before” picture. Level 2 teaches a four-part prompt template of role, context, constraints and one line the page says almost everyone misses, then re-asks the same question to compare results. Level 3 has participants hand AI their offer, pricing or bio and ask it to push back. Attendees leave, according to the page, with a before-and-after comparison, the prompt template and a view of the levels beyond.

Participation is optional but comes with a short packing list: a laptop rather than a phone, a hotspot, a free Claude or ChatGPT account and one real question about your business. The host, Dr. Eva Wolf, is described on the page as holding a doctorate in AI marketing psychometrics, as a Claude Certified Architect and as the founder of Big Plans Media, an AI consultancy in Miami. With only 15 spots, this is the session where acting early matters most.

Choosing Among Them

The three sessions answer different questions. FIU’s webinar suits an owner who wants a map of the tools before spending time on any of them. TechFluence suits an owner who wants a workshop, a panel and a room full of Broward business contacts in one evening, including conversations about capital. Miami AI Women suits a Miami business owner who wants to open a laptop and see a better answer to a real question.

The three also stack. A sensible order is the overview on Oct. 6, the networking night on Oct. 15 and the hands-on lesson on Oct. 21, so that the vocabulary from the first session is useful in the second and the practice from the third has a business question behind it. Owners in Palm Beach County will face the longest drive for the two in-person events, which makes the online FIU session the easiest to fit.

More AI Sessions Nearby

The three-session list is not the whole calendar. The Mandel Public Library in West Palm Beach lists AI in Action: Tools That Work for You, Version 2.0 on Monday, Oct. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Intro to AI in Small Business on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is required for both, and the library pages do not list a price, so call the library’s Career and Technology Programs office at (561) 868-7760. Our Mandel guide covers the Oct. 22 session.

Farther up the coast, the Delray Beach Chamber’s first Chasing AI session is set for Friday, Oct. 16. Owners who want a larger, ticketed day can look at our Miami AI Summit guide for the Oct. 23 event at Loews Coral Gables. The Gazette keeps all of these on its South Florida AI events hub.
