Key Facts for Owners and Search
What is Fi-Core under SAG-AFTRA?
Fi-Core, or Financial Core, is SAG-AFTRA’s fee-paying nonmember track. Per the union’s Financial Core page, going Fi-Core means quitting SAG-AFTRA and giving up your card and membership, which makes you a Fee Paying Non-Member, or FPNM. The status carries a loss of member identification and member-only benefits.
Can a Fi-Core actor call themselves a SAG-AFTRA member?
No. SAG-AFTRA’s Fi-Core page states that fee-paying nonmembers cannot represent themselves as SAG-AFTRA members on headshots, resumes, electronic submissions or websites, and cannot use member-only benefits. FPNMs may still work under SAG-AFTRA contracts on signatory productions and receive the contract wages and residuals that attach to covered employment.
Does Florida right-to-work cancel SAG-AFTRA Global Rule One?
No. Global Rule One is a SAG-AFTRA membership rule: a member must work under a union contract. Florida’s right-to-work provision, Article I, Section 6 of the state constitution, limits compelled dues or membership as a condition of employment. It does not let a remaining member work off the card, and the Guild warns of discipline from reprimands to fines to expulsion.
Is it easy to return to SAG-AFTRA after going Fi-Core?
No. The Fi-Core page says a fee-paying nonmember must submit a petition for reinstatement, approval is not guaranteed, and financial obligations apply if approved. Ask SAG-AFTRA Membership Services or the Miami Local for current figures before resigning, because the Sundaze guide does not publish petition fees or dues.
Are federal Beck rights the same as Fi-Core?
No. Beck rights come from federal labor law: where union-security agreements are allowed, objecting employees may limit payments to the share used for representation, as the NLRB explains. Fi-Core is SAG-AFTRA’s resignation track under its own rules. Producers hiring in South Florida should record in the deal memo whether a performer is a member, an FPNM or non-union.
