If you produce in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach and your festival map usually stops at Miami Film Festival and FLIFF, Wednesday, September 30, 2026 is the fee rung that opens a different statewide lane: the 36th Florida Film Festival, hosted by Enzian Theater in Maitland (Orlando), running April 9–18, 2027.

From today (Wednesday, September 16, 2026), that is about fourteen days — enough runway to confirm Florida premiere status, pick the right category, and pay the published Earlybird Standard fee before Regular, Late, and Extended climb.

Hard rule for Grand Jury competition: selected films must be at least a Florida premiere. The official CFE and FilmFreeway prizes language both lock that requirement. If your short already played a ticketed Florida festival or theatrical public screening anywhere in the state, treat Grand Jury Oscar eligibility as compromised until you confirm with programming (entries@enzian.org) — do not invent a workaround in the synopsis field.

Florida premiere + completion windows (read before you click Submit)

  1. Grand Jury / competition Florida premiere — films eligible for competition Grand Jury Awards should be at minimum Florida premieres.
  2. Completion / U.S. public screening floor — films may not have been completed and/or publicly screened in the United States prior to January 1, 2026.
  3. Feature commercial window — Narrative/Documentary feature films may not be streaming or commercially released (theatrical) prior to April 2027.
  4. American Independent Competition funding (Narrative Features / Documentary Features) — at least 51% U.S. funding, and the film must not be financed, produced, or initiated by a major motion picture studio (studio purchase after completion can still be eligible if other guidelines are met).

Operator checklist before Earlybird payment:

  • List every prior Florida public screening (festivals, theatrical, ticketed specials).
  • Confirm the cut still holds a Florida premiere if you want Grand Jury consideration.
  • Confirm completion and first U.S. public screening dates clear the January 1, 2026 floor.
  • For features, confirm no streaming or theatrical commercial release before April 2027.
  • Match domestic vs international category to where the majority of funding originates.

Florida Films is a programming lane in the festival’s published lineup (alongside International Showcase, Spotlight Films, Midnight Movies, Music Films, Secret Screenings, tributes, panels, and parties) — it is not a separate FilmFreeway fee category on the live listing. Audience Awards include Best Florida Film and Best Florida Short. Owners with Florida-shot or Florida-produced work should treat that lane as a programming and audience opportunity, then pick the correct competition category on FilmFreeway for the fee and premiere rules that apply.

Earlybird vs Regular vs Late vs Extended — when to pay

Pay Earlybird (by Sep 30) if the cut is locked, Florida premiere status is clean for Grand Jury aims, completion/public-screening dates clear January 1, 2026, and you want the published Standard floor ($50 features / $35 shorts). Hold for Regular (by Nov 6) only if a picture lock, legal clear, or premiere-status fix is genuinely unfinished — you are buying time at $70 features / $50 shorts Standard.

Late (by Nov 20) and Extended (by Dec 9) are the last published submission rungs before programmers move toward the February 26, 2027 notification date. Extended Standard hits $100 features / $90 shorts. Do not treat Extended as a strategy; treat it as a last-chance fee.

Exhibition timing from FilmFreeway Rules (for accepted films): digital exhibition files (including DCP downloads) must be received no later than February 19, 2027; feature films on physical DCP by March 17, 2027. Shorts exhibition is from ProRes 422, ProRes 4444, or DNxHD only. Films that arrive early stand a stronger chance of a press screening. Rules also note films not accepted may not be officially notified until early March.
