Why today’s late-call window matters for SoFlo producers
Thursday, September 10, 2026 is the last full day before the gate closes on Late registration for the 48 Hour Film Project — Miami 2026. Live on that page: Late is $198/team and ends Friday, September 11, 2026. Early Bird ($158/team, ended Tuesday, August 18) and Regular ($178/team, ended Tuesday, September 1) are already behind you. City Producer Dana DellaCamera is reachable at miami@48hourfilm.com.
This is not a nostalgia wrap for last weekend’s shoots. Kickoff is tomorrow evening. The shoot window is Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13. World premiere screenings and awards land Saturday, September 26 at Savor Cinema, 503 SE 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale — more than two weeks out, which is enough runway for Broward and Palm Beach production companies, freelancers, rental houses, caterers, and sponsors to decide whether they are in the race, on a crew call, or in the premiere room.
If you run a SoFlo shop — Broward College-adjacent crews, Fort Lauderdale post, Palm Beach camera packages, Miami Lakes stages, Hallandale casting — treat the next 24–36 hours as an owner action window, not a spectator calendar.
Late registration: fees, contact, and what “$198” buys
Verify live before you pay. As of the live Miami 48HFP page pull for this package:
| Registration rung | Fee (per team) | Ends |
|---|---|---|
| Early Bird | $158 | Tue, Aug 18, 2026 (past) |
| Regular | $178 | Tue, Sep 1, 2026 (past) |
| Late | $198 | Fri, Sep 11, 2026 (current) |
Register through the official city page: https://www.48hourfilm.com/miami/48hfp/2026. Questions for the city desk go to miami@48hourfilm.com / City Producer Dana DellaCamera — not social DMs during the weekend crunch.
What Late registration buys is a seat at the table for the weekend challenge: genre draw, required character / prop / line, eligibility for on-time dropoff, and a path onto the September 26 premiere slate at Savor Cinema. It does not buy you a free pass on paperwork, insurance, or county permits if your locations demand them. Owners who wait until kickoff without a Team Leader Agreement uploaded are already behind.
Kickoff tomorrow: CML Studios, Miami Lakes — be there or miss the assignment
When: Friday, September 11, 2026, 5:00 PM
Where: CML Studios, 4710 NW 165th Street, Miami Lakes, FL 33014
Per the live Miami 48HFP notes:
- At least one team member must attend Kickoff to receive genre and required elements.
- Team Leader Agreement must be filled out by the Team Leader and uploaded to the Team Dash page prior to Kickoff (download and upload instructions are linked from the city page).
- Required elements include the character, prop, and line. The city page instructs teams to double-check elements about one hour after kickoff.
- Weekend questions that are not in the Filmmaking Rules, Competition Rules, or FAQ: contact the city producer by phone or text. Email or social may not get answered in time.
For production company owners: put a named second on the call sheet who can drive to Miami Lakes if the Team Leader is stuck in traffic on the Turnpike. Genre and elements are the creative brief for the entire weekend — missing Kickoff is not a paperwork oops; it is a competition miss.
Shoot weekend Sep 11–13: dropoff clock and filmmaker paperwork
The filmmaking weekend is September 11–13, 2026. Live dropoff language on the Miami page:
- Online dropoff Sunday, September 13, 2026 by 7:30 PM to be On Time / Eligible (via www.48hourfilm.com / Team Dash).
- Filmmaker paperwork must be uploaded Sunday by midnight.
- Media must match the formats listed on your Team Dashboard.
- Film and paperwork upload to your team page on Dash.
Owner translation: build the Sunday reverse schedule now. If picture lock is “sometime Sunday afternoon,” you do not have a dropoff plan — you have a hope. Budget buffer for export, QC, upload latency, and the paperwork packet. Treat 7:30 PM as the on-time eligibility hard stop published for this city, and midnight as the paperwork hard stop. Do not invent a later grace window.
Safety and rules compliance are non-negotiable. The city page points teams to Filmmaking Rules and Competition Rules; weekend edge cases go to the city producer by phone/text. That is also the moment when real crews earn their keep — producers who know Broward vs Miami-Dade permit culture, DPs who can light a location in two hours, editors who can cut while the AD is still wrapping.
Already-registered SoFlo teams (live Miami roster)
The live Teams list on 48hourfilm.com/miami/48hfp/2026 currently includes (spellings as published; re-check the page if you are hiring into a specific slate):
1025 Productions; BAGSSE Productions; Beyond Ordinary; Bright Idea Media; Broward College Film Program; cafe SAD; Candle Lighting; conan studios; Edge of my Seat; Era Filmz; Extremely Round; Guerrilla Films; Gulfstream Productions; Hammerhead Motion Pictures; Hot Brick Productions; JC Studios; JG Films; Madness Media; Mature Musical Pictures; Phresh New Day Productions; Prize Box; Red Roc Films; ReelBonds; SIVECOLORS; Spin Ai Editing Studio; StillByStill Studios; SU Productions; Sudsies; Team Evernia; URGENT Inc.'s #FACETHEEXPERIENCE; VLOR.
That roster is an owner map, not a vanity shout-out. Broward College Film Program signals student-adjacent talent and faculty networks. Gulfstream, Era Filmz, Hammerhead, Hot Brick, Guerrilla, JC/JG shops, and post-leaning names (Spin Ai Editing Studio, StillByStill) tell rental houses and freelancers where call sheets may still need a gaffer, a PA van, a colorist overnight, or a craft bump. If you are late-registering tomorrow, you are joining a field that is already visible — use that to find collaborators instead of inventing a closed clique narrative.
Soft-flag: Eventbrite’s Group A/B/C premiere lists and the Miami Teams block can drift as late teams join or labels update. Treat the city page Teams list as primary for “who is registered”; treat Eventbrite groupings as premiere-night programming when tickets go on sale.
Premiere night Sep 26: Savor Cinema Fort Lauderdale — same venue as FLIFFShorts, different event
Premiere screenings: Saturday, September 26, 2026, 1:00 PM
Awards ceremony (48HFP city page): Saturday, September 26, 2026, 8:00 PM
Venue: Savor Cinema, 503 SE 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301
This is the world premiere corridor for the Miami 48 films. It is not FLIFFShorts. The Gazette’s live FLIFFShorts / Made in Broward / Savor Cinema package covers a separate Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival shorts program that also uses Savor — useful for hospitality and parking muscle memory, not as a rewrite of this competition. Do not collapse the two into one ticket or one laurels line.
The September 26 night is also paired with Arts Accelerator programming: the Florida / South Florida Filmmaker Showcase share the Savor Cinema day with 48HFP premiers. Film Lauderdale / cultural calendar coverage lists Arts Accelerator activity on September 26, 2026; the live Eventbrite listing organized by Arts Accelerator is the ticket path for screening blocks and awards:
Florida Filmmaker Showcase + 48 Hour Film Project Screenings & Awards (Eventbrite)
Eventbrite’s published day structure (verify live before you buy or brief clients):
- 1:00–2:15 PM — 48HFP Group A Premiers
- 2:45–4:00 PM — 48HFP Group B Premiers
- 4:30–5:45 PM — 48HFP Group C Premiers
- 6:00–8:00 PM — Creatives in Film Networking (food included with ticket purchase per listing; drinks at the bar)
- 6:30–7:30 PM — “How to Monetize Your Films on YouTube” masterclass (Aldo Hafiz)
- 8:00–9:00 PM — Group D / Florida Filmmaker Showcase screenings
- 9:15–10:30 PM — Awards Ceremony (48HFP + Showcase awards on the Eventbrite run-of-show)
Ticket rungs published on that Eventbrite page (confirm at checkout): All Events Early Bird $47 through September 21, 2026; All Events Regular $77; individual A/B/C 48-Hour screening blocks $17.50; D Showcase screenings $17.50; masterclass-only $37. Parking note on the listing: free parking in the Jury Lot across the street — reconfirm on event day.
Soft-flag — awards clock: The official Miami 48HFP page lists Awards Ceremony at 8:00 PM. Eventbrite’s granular rundown places Showcase screenings 8:00–9:00 PM and awards 9:15–10:30 PM. Report both; do not invent a reconciliation. For client invites, link Eventbrite and tell guests the awards block may run after the Showcase hour.
Soft-flag — artscalendar / Arts Accelerator site: artscalendar’s event URL for this showcase returned a captcha challenge from this research network (HTTP 202 / interstitial). Prefer Eventbrite + the Miami 48HFP venue lines as hard logistics. Arts Accelerator’s own domain did not resolve cleanly from this box — soft-flag reachability; use Eventbrite organizer copy and Film Lauderdale / Broward-funded notes instead of inventing a second official schedule.
Eventbrite states the programming was funded in part by the Broward Board of Trustees and Broward County Commissioners, with sponsors including Savor Cinema, Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, Keller Williams Realty, Alton Atland, Sony/AVR, The Coach MC Acting Studios, Bilzin Sumberg, CML Studios, Budget Video Rental, Film Lauderdale, Community Foundation of Broward, and Broward Cultural Division. That is the sponsor map for brands that want to be in the room without pretending they produced a short.
Stakes: Best Film → Filmapalooza March 2027 + Cannes Short Film Corner lane
Live Miami 48HFP copy is clear on the headline stakes:
- Best Film advances to Filmapalooza in March 2027 and is eligible for a spot in the 48HFP screening at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.
- Celebrate with awards including the Audience Award.
Eventbrite’s Best Film prize stack (verify with city producer if you are pitching sponsors) additionally lists:
- 8 hours of free studio time at CML Studios
- $500 gift certificate from Budget Video Rental
- Screening at the 48hr world competition at Filmapalooza
- A chance to screen at Cannes
Soft-flag — Filmapalooza year/place on Eventbrite: The Miami city page says Filmapalooza March 2027. Independent reporting (Curaçao Chronicle / CINEX messaging) places Filmapalooza 2027 in Curaçao. Eventbrite prize copy has appeared with a “Filmapalooza 2026” wording — treat that as a soft-flag / likely stale year on the ticket page; prefer the official Miami page’s March 2027 language and confirm Curaçao host details with Dana DellaCamera if you are writing sponsor one-pagers.
Audience Award voting is a premiere-night owner lever: get your cast, clients, and collaborators into the correct Group A/B/C block so they can vote when the listing says Audience Choice voting occurs. Awards categories called on Eventbrite include Best Film / 2nd / 3rd, Audience Choice, Best Actor (with a Coach MC Acting Studio package noted), Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Use of Line, Best Writing, Best Sound, and more — useful for crew résumés even when Best Film goes elsewhere.
Owner lanes: crew hire, vendors, sponsors — not a thin listing
Production companies still assembling a late team
Pay the $198 Late fee today/tomorrow, upload the Team Leader Agreement before Kickoff, and put one body at CML Studios at 5:00 PM. Pre-book editor + sound + a runner who understands Sunday upload. Do not wait until Saturday morning to ask whether your Dropbox path matches Dash requirements.
Freelancers / crew
Scan the live Teams list for shops you already trust. Offer weekend day rates with a Sunday premium tied to the 7:30 PM dropoff. Bring kit lists that fit a 48-hour footprint — not a feature truck. If you want Broward College-adjacent student talent, coordinate through the Film Program’s published channels rather than cold-spamming students.
Rental houses / stages / post
CML Studios is both Kickoff host and a Best Film prize partner on Eventbrite (studio time). Budget Video Rental appears in the prize stack. That is a signal to other Broward/Miami-Dade vendors: package 48-hour kits now (camera + lights + audio with weekend insurance riders) and pitch registered teams Friday afternoon after genres drop. Post houses: sell overnight online conform capacity for Sunday, not a leisurely Monday color pass.
Sponsors / brands / law firms / hospitality near SE 6th
September 26 at Savor is a downtown Fort Lauderdale audience with dual tracks (48HFP + Filmmaker Showcase). Eventbrite’s All-Events ticket and networking block are the simplest brand-entry points if you are not cutting a film. For deeper Film Lauderdale relationship capital, use the commission’s published channels — do not invent exclusive presenting rights. Hospitality within walking distance of 503 SE 6th Street should treat Sep 26 like a shorts-night dinner rush: early matinee premieres, late networking, awards spill.
Palm Beach owners
You are not locked out of a Miami-branded 48. Kickoff is Miami Lakes; premiere is Fort Lauderdale. That corridor is a SoFlo circuit. If your Palm Beach roster can reach CML by 5 PM Friday and Savor on Sep 26, you are geographically viable — budget Turnpike time honestly.
Broward free permit stack vs Miami-Dade → Broward race logistics
A 48-hour film does not erase county lines. Many teams will write in Miami Lakes, shoot across Miami-Dade and Broward, and premiere in Fort Lauderdale. That is the race.
Broward / Film Lauderdale: Live Film Lauderdale permit information states there are no permit fees for production projects shooting in Broward County, aside from cost recovery for special services (police details, road closures, facility rentals, etc.). Film Lauderdale issues permits for Broward County property and on behalf of most municipalities; standard processing often needs at least three business days, with about two weeks for stunts / road closures / pyrotechnics. Certificate of Insurance requirements are real — request exact additional-insured language before you lock a weekend location. Apply through Film Lauderdale’s FilmApp portal; contact published on Film Lauderdale channels includes film@filmlauderdale.org and 954-357-8788.
For a Friday–Sunday 48, three business days of lead time is already a crunch if you are only registering Late on Thursday/Friday. Practical owner move: pre-file Broward locations you know you might use, or keep the shoot on private property scenarios you have already cleared with Film Lauderdale guidance — and still confirm, because most Broward municipalities require permits on private property as well as public.
Miami-Dade contrast (high-level, do not invent fee tables): Miami-Dade permitting is a separate stack from Broward’s free Film Lauderdale path. Teams that bounce from Miami Lakes Kickoff into Dade street work need Dade timelines and fees on their own checklist — do not assume Broward’s “no permit fee” language travels with you across the county line. Build the location matrix Friday night after genre assignment, not Saturday at noon.
Gazette owners who want the broader Broward production-support map (without turning this piece into a rebate hub) can stack the live Broward County film incentives / Film Lauderdale guide beside this weekend’s logistics. This package does not rehash statewide sales-tax exemption, Emerging Filmmakers Grant, or federal credit debates — those are separate owner tools with their own clocks.
Action checklist for the next 36 hours (and the two weeks after)
Before Kickoff Friday 5:00 PM
1. Register Late at $198/team on the Miami 48HFP page if you are still out.
2. Upload Team Leader Agreement to Team Dash.
3. Put ≥1 teammate at CML Studios, 4710 NW 165th St, Miami Lakes.
4. Email miami@48hourfilm.com only for pre-weekend clarity; switch to phone/text once the clock is live.
5. Soft-hold Broward locations / COIs with Film Lauderdale realities in mind.
Shoot weekend
6. Write / shoot / edit inside the assigned genre + character / prop / line.
7. Online dropoff Sunday by 7:30 PM for on-time/eligible.
8. Filmmaker paperwork Sunday by midnight.
Through September 26
9. Buy Eventbrite tickets for the correct Group A/B/C (or All Events) and brief your audience voters.
10. Plan Savor Cinema hospitality and parking; remember this is not FLIFFShorts even though the theater is the same.
11. If you win Best Film, plan Filmapalooza March 2027 logistics from official 48HFP guidance — soft-flag Eventbrite’s year wording and confirm with the city producer.
South Florida’s production economy does not only run on features and brand films. It also runs on weekends when a Miami Lakes kickoff forces a Broward premiere — and when Late registration still has a price and a clock. That clock hits Friday, September 11. Use it.
