If you are building a high-growth tech company in Palm Beach County or South Florida — especially anything sitting near AI, machine learning, big data, cyber, drones, edtech, sensing, or related FAU research lanes — Boca Raton has a live application door that is easy to miss if you only chase city grant calendars. The Runway Venture Program at Florida Atlantic University is currently stamped Applications Open: Now, with a live [Apply Now](https://fau.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d6fyO3bmJZUvxEW) Qualtrics form on the program page. This Gazette package is an owner apply map: what the public pages actually promise, how the three tracks are labeled, how eligibility cuts people out, and a checklist you can run before you burn a weekend on a weak application.

This is not a rewrite of the live 1909 West Palm Beach member Business Grant / Launch–Grow–Scale map. Different campus. Different product. Stack them as parallel Palm Beach founder tools if both still fit your stage — do not paste 1909 membership grant framing onto an FAU Runway application, or the reverse.

Why Boca owners should open this page this week

The Runway sits inside FAU’s public–private innovation stack on the Boca campus — 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton, FL 33431 — and markets itself as a hub that incubates startups and accelerates technology development. The venture page is blunt about the audience it wants: exceptional entrepreneurs and startups with high-growth potential and disruptive technologies, often with strategic alignment to FAU research focus areas. Those focus areas, as published live, include:

  • drone technologies
  • educational technologies
  • environmental science
  • marine science
  • ocean engineering
  • neuroscience
  • healthy aging
  • big data analytics
  • artificial intelligence
  • machine learning
  • cyber security
  • sensing and smart systems

If your company is a local restaurant, a single-site franchise, a pure retail shop, or a lifestyle/family business with no national-scale path, this program is probably the wrong desk — and the January 2026 rules PDF says so in black and white (see the cut-out section below). If you are shipping AI tooling for SMBs, ML for security/defense, cyber products, edtech, health-tech with AI, computer vision, or similarly scalable tech, the Venture Class company pages show that lane is already populated. Recent Venture Class listings on The Runway’s Venture Classes page include AI-forward names such as FireCodes AI, Hinge AI, JobCommander, PFM Innovations (computer vision / ML), AIKOLO (edge AI), Evala.ai, and others — useful pattern recognition for how applicants present, not a guarantee you will be admitted.

For Palm Beach operators already juggling adjacent owner maps this season, keep the stack honest and separate:

Different eligibility. Different calendars. Different asks.

What “more than $100,000 in resources and services” actually means

Live wording on the Venture Program page: “Program participants can receive more than $100,000 in resources and services, including but not limited to:” — then a published list. Read that carefully. It is framed as resources and services, not a no-strings cash check deposited on day one. The public bullet list (as of this pull) includes:

  • Structured team-based mentoring
  • Entrepreneurial education (linked on-page to FAU’s Adams Center)
  • Customer discovery programming (linked to FAU’s Market Validation Workshop under Innovation and Business Development)
  • Introductions to potential sources of early-stage capital
  • Programs and resources from FAU’s Innovation and Business Development
  • Marketing and business support from college interns
  • Pitch practice opportunities
  • Networking events
  • Access to regional business and technology events
  • Free office hours from premier professional support firms (attorneys, accountants, etc.)

Owner translation: budget the value as mentoring + curriculum + discovery + capital intros + intern marketing support + pitch reps + pro-bono-style professional office hours, not as a guaranteed $100k wire. Soft-flag: the page does not publish a line-item valuation table showing how the “more than $100,000” figure is summed. Do not invent one. Ask staff in writing how your cohort’s resource package is structured if you need a grant-accounting number for your board or investors.

The Runway hub page (fau.edu/therunway) adds institutional framing: mentoring, introductions to early-stage capital, grants and seed funding language at the hub level, boot camp tools, business/tech events, and regional innovation network connections. Soft-flag the distinction: Venture Program page = the $100k+ resources/services list above; Runway hub = broader ecosystem language including grants/seed funding at the company-access level. Do not collapse those into a promise that every Venture Program admit automatically receives a named cash grant amount unless FAU confirms that for your cycle in writing.

The three tracks: Incubate → Validate → Accelerate

The live program tracks box is short and clear:

  • Applications Open: [Now](https://fau.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d6fyO3bmJZUvxEW)
  • Part 1: Incubate
  • Part 2: Validate
  • Part 3: Accelerate

That is the entire public curriculum outline on the venture page as of this reporting. Soft-flag: the page does not publish week-by-week syllabi, session times, or hybrid/in-person hour counts for each part in the same box. Treat Parts 1–3 as a staged progression label — incubate, then validate, then accelerate — and confirm schedule, location (Boca in-person expectation for community participants), and required attendance with InnovateFAU staff after you apply or before you commit team bandwidth.

Soft-flag — stale commented dates in page source: HTML comments in the live venture-program page still contain older copy reading “Application Scoring: April 17–May 10th,” “Finalists notified… May 2024,” and “Program kickoff… Late May/Early June 2024.” Those strings are commented out and are not presented as the current live schedule in the rendered tracks box. This Gazette package does not treat them as active deadlines. Rely on Applications Open: Now + the live Qualtrics Apply Now link, and email staff for the current scoring/notification window for your cycle.

Hard eligibility — who can apply (Jan 2026 PDF)

Primary rules document (HTTP 200): FAU EII Venture Program Eligibility and Rules & Regulations — Updated January 2026. Linked from the Venture Program page as Program Rules & Regulations. Read it before you apply.

Venture / project eligibility highlights (as published):

  • Minimum age: At least one team member must be 18+; under-18 participants need written parental/guardian permission.
  • U.S.-based / eligibility residency: Team founders must reside in the U.S. or hold legal status (such as a work visa) allowing them to establish and operate a company in Florida.
  • Submissions must reflect the applicant’s own original work and ideas.
  • Prior applicants not selected may reapply. Applicants who joined other incubators/accelerators outside Florida Atlantic are still eligible for the Venture Program.
  • Nonprofits, hybrids (e.g., B Corps), and social entrepreneurs are eligible; assessment criteria may be modified vs. for-profit applicants.

Community member participation (the Boca/SoFlo owner rule most Gazette readers need): At least 51% of founders and executives must live in the state of Florida and be able to participate in person.

Soft-flag vs. shorthand you may hear around town: this is not identical to a blanket “every founder must be a Florida resident” slogan for all pathways. The PDF’s community-member rule is the ≥51% founders/executives in Florida + in-person participation standard. Separately, the same PDF lists Veterans Florida Entrepreneurship Program Cohort requirements that include “Must be Florida resident” plus veteran/spouse/status documentation — a different cohort path inside the same rules document. If you are applying as a community founder (not FAU student/faculty and not the Veterans Florida cohort), anchor to the 51% / in-person language and confirm edge cases with staff.

FAU undergraduate / faculty / staff / graduate paths have additional good-standing and IP/conflict rules in the same PDF. International students are told to check FAU International Student Services on visa allowance. If you intend to commercialize FAU IP, notify FAU’s Office of Technology Development — do not wing university IP.

Program requirements once admitted (high level): participate in required programming; comply with reasonable company performance metric reporting (Runway commits to confidentiality / depersonalizing / aggregating for public reporting); professional conduct with mentors and peers; legal and ethical operations; report conflicts of interest that contradict Institute standards. The Institute reserves final admission and continuation decisions.

Who should NOT apply — honest cut-outs

The January 2026 PDF is unusually helpful here. The following business types are not eligible to participate:

  • Tax shelters
  • Real estate syndications
  • Franchises
  • Movie production syndications
  • Oil/gas/petroleum partnerships
  • “Lifestyle” or family businesses not having potential for significant growth or the ability to scale on a national basis
  • Retail
  • Spin-out companies that are majority-owned by a parent company (the PDF’s own example: Instagram owned by Meta)

Owner honesty check before you open Qualtrics:

  • If your model is a single-location retail shop with no productized national path, you are in the retail / lifestyle cut.
  • If you are buying franchise rights and want accelerator polish, you are in the franchise cut.
  • If the “startup” is mostly a real-estate syndication or tax structure, you are in the wrong building.
  • If the company is majority-owned by a corporate parent spinning out a unit, the majority-parent spin-out rule is designed for that fact pattern.
  • If fewer than 51% of founders/executives live in Florida, or your leadership cannot show up in person for Boca programming, the community-member rule is a hard stop unless staff confirm another eligible pathway (FAU student/faculty rules, Veterans Florida cohort, etc.).

This section is not a judgment on “real” businesses — Palm Beach needs strong local retail and family firms. It is a fit filter so you do not waste founder time on a high-growth tech incubator that has already published who it will not admit.

How to apply — actionable checklist

  1. Read the live program hub: https://www.fau.edu/therunway/venture-program/ — confirm Applications Open: Now still shows before you invest hours.
  2. Download and read the Jan 2026 Rules & Regulations PDF linked on that page: eligibility PDF. Self-score against the ineligible business types and the ≥51% Florida founders/executives + in-person rule.
  3. Confirm focus-area fit in one paragraph: AI/ML, cyber, big data, drones, edtech, sensing/smart systems, marine/ocean, neuroscience/healthy aging, environmental — or a clear disruptive tech thesis that still reads as high-growth / scalable. Borrow clarity from how Venture Class companies describe themselves on the Venture Classes page without copying another team’s story.
  4. Apply only through the live Qualtrics form published as Apply Now / Applications Open Now: https://fau.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d6fyO3bmJZUvxEW (HTTP 200 as of this reporting). Do not invent alternate application URLs from memory or old social posts.
  5. Prep artifacts before you click submit: problem in one sentence; who pays; why now; traction or discovery evidence you actually have (interviews, pilots, LOIs, waitlist, revenue — whatever is real); team residency/in-person availability; why FAU Runway vs. a generic accelerator.
  6. Email questions to the published inboxes (see contacts) if eligibility is edge-case — better a staff clarification than a doomed form.
  7. Calendar the in-person commitment for Boca programming if admitted; community participants are expected to be able to participate in person.
  8. Do not treat commented-out 2024 scoring dates in page source as your deadline. Ask staff for the current scoring / notification window for the open cycle.
  9. If you are stacking Palm Beach tools, keep 1909 grant deadlines, CRA applications, and Matchmaker registration on separate checklists — eligibility and deliverables do not transfer.

Contacts and campus

  • Venture Program questions (live on venture page): InnovateFAU@fau.edu
  • The Runway hub contact (live on therunway home): therunway@fau.edu
  • Eligibility/rules PDF footer for document questions: innovate@fau.edu
  • Soft-flag: three related inboxes appear across FAU pages/PDF (`InnovateFAU@fau.edu`, `therunway@fau.edu`, `innovate@fau.edu`). Prefer the address printed next to the question you are asking; CC a second if you get no reply.
  • Campus address published on Runway footers: Florida Atlantic University, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton, FL 33431
  • Program home: https://www.fau.edu/therunway/venture-program/
  • Runway home: https://www.fau.edu/therunway/
  • Soft-flag: /therunway/contact/ returned HTTP 403 from this reporting environment; use the emails and addresses above rather than depending on that contact path alone.

The Runway is described as part of the Florida Atlantic Innovation and Business Development pipeline — see FAU Innovation and Business Development for the wider university entrepreneurship stack that the Venture Program list already points into (customer discovery / market validation and related programming).

How this differs from other SoFlo founder desks (so you do not mix packets)

  • FAU The Runway Venture Program (this map): Boca FAU incubator/accelerator track for high-growth / disruptive tech; $100k+ resources and services framing; hard business-type exclusions; Florida majority founder/exec + in-person community rule; Apply Now Qualtrics live.
  • 1909 West Palm Beach: Downtown membership ecosystem + member Business Grant / Launch–Grow–Scale ladder — use the live Gazette 1909 package for that desk only.
  • City/CRA façade and site grants: Place-based, often construction-tied — see WPB and Delray Gazette maps linked above.
  • Procurement matchmakers: Buyer meetings and capability packets — Oct 2 Palm Beach Partners prep is a different sport.

Never badmouth the people running any of these desks. Use the published rules. If a page and a PDF disagree someday, soft-flag it and ask staff — do not invent a reconciliation that flatters your application.

Bottom line for Palm Beach / SoFlo high-growth founders

Applications to FAU’s The Runway Venture Program are open now. The public value proposition is more than $100,000 in resources and services — mentoring, entrepreneurial education, customer discovery, capital introductions, intern marketing support, pitch practice, networking, and free attorney/accountant office hours among the listed items. Tracks are labeled Incubate → Validate → Accelerate. Focus areas lean hard into AI, ML, big data, cyber, drones, edtech, sensing, and related FAU research strengths. Eligibility is real: Florida-majority founder/executive teams who can participate in person, and a clear not-eligible list that cuts retail, franchises, lifestyle businesses without national scale potential, real estate syndications, tax shelters, majority-parent spin-outs, and related categories.

Apply here if the live stamp still says Now: [Qualtrics Apply Now](https://fau.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d6fyO3bmJZUvxEW). Start from the program page: https://www.fau.edu/therunway/venture-program/. Read the January 2026 eligibility PDF before you hit submit. If you are cut out by the rules, close the tab and put your energy on a desk that matches — that is still a win for the company.
